Open Letter to the DSNY and it's Workers

WHY?

Why would you put YOUR city in danger. Why would you not do your very best, as you always have, to clean up the FIVE borrows in the greastest city in the world, NEW YORK, NEW YORK. In the past the DSNY has ALWAYS come through, clearing the streets in record time NO matter how much snow we got.

Here it is Thursday, December 30, 2010, a good four days after the snow stopped and alll the streets are STILL have not been cleared!

Queens City Councilman Dan Halloran told the NY POST that there may have been a work slow down to make the mayor pay for Sanitation Department layoffs. There have been 400 job cuts since 2008. And 100 supervisors are slated to be demoted and there salaries slashed. Union representatives and city leaders say it's not true.

Halloran , who was visited yesterday by a group of guilt-ridden sanitation workers who confessed the shameless plot. Halloran said he met with three plow workers from the Sanitation Department -- and two Department of Transportation supervisors who were on loan -- at his office after he was flooded with irate calls from constituents.

The snitches "didn't want to be identified because they were afraid of retaliation," Halloran said. "They were told [by supervisors] to take off routes [and] not do the plowing of some of the major arteries in a timely manner. They were told to make the mayor pay for the layoffs, the reductions in rank for the supervisors, shrinking the rolls of the rank-and-file."

New York's Strongest used a variety of tactics to drag out the plowing process -- and pad overtime checks -- which included keeping plows slightly higher than the roadways and skipping over streets along their routes, the sources said. The snow-removal snitches said they were told to keep their plows off most streets and to wait for orders before attacking.

If this is true, Forget the layoffs and reduction of salaries, FIRE ALL THAT WERE INVOLVED now before the next storm. There are plenty of unemployed workers out there who would love to have this job. You have a beef with the city, Mayor etc., FINE, DO NOT ENDANGER THE PUBLIC SAFETY.

City sanitation commissioner John Doherty, you have lost control of your men. Maybe you have been at the DSNY to long and it is time for a change. The workers obviously don't respect you or this would NEVER have happened.

Mr. Mayor, Don't pass the blame to us. We were trying to survive the mess you got us in. Your leadership is in question and your ability to handle this city should be investigated. You finagled to get a third term, show some leadership to earn back the confidence of now the people you don't need to get reelected to a forth term. Unless you change that, too.

Bloomberg has been bombarded by an avalanche of criticism for the slow response, inviting comparisons to the 1969 blizzard that buried the city as well as the reputation of  Mayor John Lindsay.

Why wasn't a snow emergency declared?

What is the breakdown of manpower and equipment related to each borrow for snow removal?

But I go back to the DSNY rank and file workers. If supervisors told you to slow down snow removal, WHY did you listen. You must have known that it was wrong, putting lives in danger. You also know that because of this you will NEVER get any of your demands met. How can they now listen to your grievances when you blackmailed the city holding it's soul hostage. Forget public support, that is gone, disappeared in a mountain of unplowed snow covering the many streets you choose not to visit.

WHY? WHY?

Want do you think???.......

How Does your city or town handle snow removal???......

Is it Me or Doesn't Anyone Care Anymore!

Is it me or are do more and more people just don't care about each other anymore?  or They think there time is precious, but yours don't matter! And forget about common curtsy!

Example: We all been to the Doctors. Made an appointment, arrived 10 minutes early, only to have to sit and wait for over a half hour or more! WHY? What if we decided to stroll in to the Doc's office say 15 minutes or so late. Think he/she would be happy to be kept waiting!

Example: Your on-line at your local bank, there are only two tellers handling a very crowded line when one decides to take a break and now there's only one! Everyone looks at the branch manager, some even complain vocally, but she/he is to busy talking on the phone to her family! WHY?

Example: You driving down the road behind a car, the light up ahead you know is about to change. Your obeying the traffic rules, but want to make it. Except the person in front of you deliberately decides to SLOW down, tramping you behind him. As the light goes to yellow he speeds up, making the light that turned to red, trapping you. WHY?

Example: We ALL have needed to get our car fixed, right. So you bring it in bright an early 7:30am sharpe. You wait in line outside with everyone else who woke up earlyer then normal, get in, tell them what's wrong and go have a seat to wait, and wait, and wait. When they finnally come to tell you whats wrong, it also comes with the news that the part you need, they have to order it so you will have to leave your car. That's when it gets ugly. Once they have your car, it's like the Bermuda Triangle, it disapears for days. Even when you call them, they say something like there working on it, but it wont be ready again today. WHY?

Family is the worst. You are more then happy to help whoever calls, for whatever they need. Need a ride, NO PROBLEM, stay over, NO PROBLEM, borrow this or that, NO PROBLEM. Whatever they ask, but it seems when YOU need something, they all have short memories. WHY?

Example: Something breaks or needs fixing in your house or apartment or your cable/satellite/phone is out. You call for service and are told, NO PROBLEM we will be there tomorrow between 8 and 12. What you forgot to ask was that am or pm. You wait and wait and wait. Held hostage by these people who think you have nothing better to do then wait, and pray, they get here soon! WHY?

Example: Your online at a department/grocery store. The person in front of you decides to discuss the price on EVERY item that is being rung up. Disputing what the scanner says, causing the person at the register to have to constantly re-check the items with the circular or ask for the supervisor.WHY?

It seems to me that people only care about there life/lifestyle and to hell with anyone else. Don't inconveince them, but as for you too bad. Our society today has become a ME ME and others don't matter. If it benefits ME, good, if it hurts you, WHO CARES!

Internet Right or Privilege?

Who uses the Internet? Anybody? Anybody?

The FCC on Tuesday Dec. 21, 2010 approved the so called "net neutrality" designed to ensure that internet providers grant everyone equal access to the Web. The rules are designed to, in effect, keep the companies that own the internet's real-world infrastructure from slowing down some types of websites or apps -- say, those belonging to a competitor -- or speeding up others for high-paying clients. One speed for all.

The concept of “net neutrality’' holds that companies providing Internet service should treat all sources of data equally. Currently, Internet users get access to any Web site on an equal basis.

Sounds good, right. But is it.

The rules does allow Internet providers to engage in "reasonable network management," meaning they can take steps to regulate traffic and congestion over their connections. For example, mobile Internet providers won't be allowed to block access to Skype -- a popular Internet phone service -- from your iPhone, or Blackberry. But they could significantly slow down bandwidth to the program or charge more for people who use it.

Well make no mistake: The free-flowing Internet as we know it could very well become history. Network owners say they want a "tiered" Internet. If you pay to get in the top tier, your site and your service will run fast. If you don't, you'll be in the slow lane.

Also network owners have built a business model by charging consumers for Internet access. Now they want to charge you for access to the network, and then charge you again for the things you do while you're online. Selling bandwidth in capped tiers, with overage charges for users who download too much information, and certain types of data traffic like peer-to-peer file transfers could be banned altogether.

Tiered pricing structures are already in place for many communications providers like AT&T and Cricket, which offer wireless broadband services. Verizon said it would implement similar pricing structures in the coming months..

AT&T also announced in June 2010 that  it will stop it's unlimited plan for iPhones and iPads. This article from the Huffington Post explains it. In essence all NEW subscribers will pay a flat rate for a set amount of gigabytes and an additional amount for overage.

Pandora's box?
I say, as some also do, this will result in a tiered system just like salalite/cable TV. There will be one price say if all you do is surf the web, look at you e-mails etc and another price if you watch videos, movies etc. This to me makes the internet a Privilege depending on how much you are willing to pay.

Which brings me to my original question, Is the Internet a right or privilege?

Michael Vick's Comeback

It was a cold, windy but sunny December day in the New Jersey Meadowlands as the 9-4 Philadelphia Eagles came to face the 9-4 New York Giants. The game in essence to decide the NFC east division and possible #2 seed in the playoffs.

At first it looked like Michael Vick and his Eagles didn't deserve to be on the same field with the Giants, who built up a 24-3 halftime lead. I was shocked at Vick's ineffectiveness, 6-of-10 passes for 33 yards, while Eli Manning was 16-of-25 for three touchdowns and one interception.

But the second half showed that Michael Vick has come all the way back. Back from almost destroying his life with  terrible, horrific acts of cruelty to animals that is appalling to even contemplate one could be involved in such a thing.

Michael Vick signal handily willed his Eagles to a win, rushing for 130 yards 1TD and passing for 242 and 3TD's.

This was capped off by a dramatic 72-yard touchdown punt return by Eagles DeSean Jackson as time ran out, bringing back memories of "The Miracle at the Meadowlands" on November 19, 1978. That day saw Eagles cornerback Herman Edwards recover a fumble and returned it for a game winning touchdown.

This was one game, but for Michael Vick it was another day at redemption.  In August 2007, he pleaded guilty to federal felony charges for an  illegal interstate dog fighting ring that he had operated over five years. He served 21 months in prison, followed by two months in home confinement. With the loss of his NFL salary and product endorsement deals, combined with previous financial mismanagement, Vick filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2008. Falcons owner Arthur Blank did not want Vick on the Falcons, and after attempts to trade him failed, Vick was released. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and was reinstated in Week 3 of the 2009 season.

But still today critics say he should not be in the NFL. He shouldn't have the privilege to play because of what he did in the past.

But I say he has paid his debt to society. He lost everything he had built up over the years, most importantly his reputation which to me is the most valuable thing a person has. Who are we to decide that a person can NOT make a living in the one thing he does best. Who are we to say he doesn't deserve to display his talents in the NFL and have a chance to rebuild his reputation and status in the national and local community.

In MY opinion he has the right to make a living doing what he does best, playing professional football. Is what he did inexcusable, YES! But should he be band from the NFL over it, NO!

I talked to a former member of PETA who told me while he doesn't root for him, he said he does have the right to play football  in the NFL

He has also said he wants to Get Dog to Help His Rehabilitation→ (story) to this I say you have displayed that in the past you were incapable of handling this important responsibility, therefore you should NEVER be trusted to own one again.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

President Obama tax bill passes House/Senate

The $858 billion tax deal vote  in the house was 277-148 and had almost equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans in support.
The Senate had passed it 81-19 on Wednesday
The package includes a two-year extension of the Bush-era tax cuts set to expire December 31. It also would extend unemployment benefits for 13 months, cut the payroll tax by 2 percent on workers first $106,800 of wages a year reducing it to 4.2%, restore the estate tax at a lower level and continue a series of other tax breaks.
Listen is this good for the country?
We are in the worst recession in 80 years. Oh, did I say the R word! People out there are hurting. I see it every day as I’m sure some of you do too. Families are cutting back, doing with less even doing without just to make it day to day.
It’s difficult for us too understand all the backroom deals and constant bickering going on in DC. It seems that politicians are more interested in getting re-elected with their image then why they were put there in the first place. To serve the people, NOT themselves!
You can turn on five different news programs and get five different opinions on what this will do for US!
In a statement released shortly after the vote, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said the bill was “good for growth, good for jobs, good for working and middle-class families, and good for businesses looking to invest and expand their work force.”
Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, in line to become majority leader, said the measure, while not perfect, marked a “first step” toward economic recovery.
Largely marginalized in the negotiations leading to the bill, Democrats emphasized their unhappiness with Obama.
“We stand today with only one choice: Pay the ransom now or pay more ransom later,” said Rep. Brad Sherman of California. “This is not a place Democrats want to be. But, ultimately, it is better to pay the ransom today than to watch the president pay even more, and I think he’d be willing to pay a bit more next month.”
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said the White House “could have gotten a better deal” in secretive talks.
WOW! See what I mean. Four different statements expressing four different opinions! Who to believe?
Is this a perfect solution. Obviously not, but at least it helps a vast majority of Americans and continues to help the long term unemployed in our country.
Things will not get better until Wall Street, the Banks, corporate America and yes the almighty Federal Reserve say so. When they make enough money to satisfy their thirst and start to loan out money again, hiring Americans back , raising rates for American savers maybe we will see a true recovery.
Until then we have to hope that every small step that our elected officials do we lead us closer to that day.
Is this the bill that solves all our problems, of course not, but its another step in the right direction.
Or is it. What do You all think.
