UPDATED: Oh Verizon: iphone 4 or Wait for iphone 5

some_textUPDATE: Feb.26,2011 - Sales of the Verizon iphone 4 has been widely reported as disappointing. Expectations of long lines and millions of iphones being sold have NOT materialized.

In an article in the Wall Street Journal, CEO Daniel S. Mead said "Verizon Wireless sold more iPhone 4s during its initial launch than any other product in the carrier's history". BGR reported on Feb. 16, "We have been told that online pre-orders between Verizon and Apple amounted to around 550,000 units." With a total of almost 1 million sold altogether. Apple, though, typically crows about its sales achievements in big, splashy press releases. Apple has yet to do that with the Verizon Wireless iPhone.

Could that be because fewer than 1 million of the devices has been sold so far? Perhaps. It could also be that because of an agreement in place with Verizon Wireless, Apple isn't allowed to share the numbers.

Oppenheimer & Co. analyst Timothy Horan estimates that Verizon Wireless will sell 3 million to 4 million iPhone 4s in the first quarter of 2011, and 10 million for the year. Well if that is the case they better get going fast cause all reports point to they are far behind that number right now.

If sales were big, wouldn't a company want to crow about it and yell to the world the success of there latest venture? CEO Mead went on to say, ", it wouldn't release iPhone sales figures until the company's next earnings release." Why wont they just tell us the exact figures of how many that where sold?

Listen, the spin by CEO Mead sounds to me like a political party coming out to bend things the way they want you to think it is. All reports I have seen points to one conclusion, People are waiting for the iphone 5, PERIOD! I AM, ARE YOU?

UPDATE: iphone 5  I've been following all the latest rumors and reports about Apples latest version of the iphone. Some said it would be delayed till September'11, but that rumor was squashed quickly and all indications point to a June'11 launch. 1.- is the iPhone 5 with a sliding qwerty keypad, 2.-is the iPhone 5 mini which will have lesser capabilities but will also have a lower price point and 3.- the normal iPhone 5 with improved specs from the iPhone 4 with a 4" larger screen.(photo right) Also a White iphone coming in Spring 2011.
The ipad 2 will be introduced on March 2, 2011. Hopefully we will get some further details.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a loyal Verizon customer. I have been with them many, many years ever since I switched wayyyyy back when from my first cell phone with AT&T.

So, OK, Verizon is set to launch the iphone 4 to everyone, Thursday February 10. Verizon customers who got locked out last time at the pre-order launch on February 3, 2011, me included, which only lasted till about 7:30pm, that's a whole other blog rant, get a second chance as do non-Verizon customers. I'm sure the demand will be epic, some say one million sold in first week, as the wait is finally over for those loyal customers who stuck with them hoping eventually this day would come.
some_textBut will I be on-line or on line to get my iphone 4? HOLD ON! I don't think so! Why? Lets do some thinking together about this. My biggest concern is all the rumors I am hearing that Apple will come out with the iphone 5 on June 6, 2011. That's right, you heard me, THE iPHONE 5! June 6 is the opening day of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference; this event has been used by Apple to roll out its newest models since 2008.
Now some say that's impossible, since Verizon is launching the Apple iphone 4 now in February. Apple wouldn't launch a newer version in June so quickly, or would they?
But what would Apple release on June 6 this summer is the question and many believe that it might introduce iPhone 5 or maybe it will be known as the iPhone 4G. However, it is pretty doubtful that Apple would release a 4G phone in 2011 because of the status of 4G.

So the question is, Get the Verizon iphone 4 NOW or wait for the iphone 5 in June?

Lets discuss:
Getting the iphone 4 now:
  • A solid re-release of the most impressive iPhone yet, say some critics. But it is a re-release. It is new technology from Verizon but it's still an iPhone 4
  • Better coverage than AT&T (voice & data)
  • Fewer dropped calls
  • Finally the iPhone on Verizon!
  • Unlimited data
  • Use as a wireless hotspot
Waiting for the iphone 5:

  •  iphone 4 No voice and data at the same time
  •  iphone 4 No international roaming
  •  iphone 4 No New features
  •  It is still an outdated iPhone 4
  • The Redesigned Antenna for Verizon iPhone 4 may STILL have issues>READ
  • If you buy now, you will be "locked in" for two long years unable to get the latest and greatest
  • There are bound to be issues with there network, waiting enables them to correct these issues so you wont be frustrated and inconvenienced
  • Also rumored is a White iphone
What else. Maybe Verizon we stop offering unlimited Data. But if they do they usual announce it in advance giving all then an opertunity to jump on the iphone 4 to lock themselves in.
If your a current Verizon customer you might be thinking you will loose your New-Every-Two upgrade Credit? I e-mailed Verizon and asked when mine will expire. They said I am entitled to one more credit before they discontinue it. So if you have one coming you will still get it!
The iphone 5 will cost more then the iphone 4! Don't think so, as many in the tech world say it should be the same as the iphone 4.  If it is more, then you can still buy the iphone 4.
Let others test the system, why get frustrated with NEW Verizon technology like the original AT&T iphone uses.
We are talking only maybe four months more to wait. Sure some say if you always waited for NEW technology you would never buy anything. True, and we Verizon customers have been waiting a LONG time.
If your getting one, great. Let us all know how you like it. For me though, I think I'll wait just a little bit more. If I'm going to be locked in for two years, I want at least one full year were I can say, "I have the latest and greatest, NOT just four months.

SUPER BOWL XLV A DUD

Lets break it down.........

  • I like Christina Aguilera. Her music and talent I believe are great. But if you are going to sing the National Anthem of your country, THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA, at the biggest sporting event in the world, in front of the largest audience your will ever perform in front of (TV & crowd). PLEASE study and know the words. Is that too much to ask for. Some I've read call it nerves or a sincere case of the jitters. NO! You are a professional performer who has been doing this since your days with Disney in 1993. Been on TV and movies, numerous world wide concert tours, featured at the 2007 NBA ALL*Star half-time show. Now your were given the honor of singing the Star Spangled Banner and you blew it.The singer issued this statement late on Sunday, February 6, 2011. "I got so lost in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."

In a Jan. 24 statement when it was confirmed that she would sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, Aguilera said, "I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true." Next time maybe just right the words on your arm like NFL quarterbacks have the plays.

  • Now itwas will.i.am, Fergie , Apl.de.ap and Taboo's turn to take this stage and in my opinion failed to live up to the standards set by there predecessors. True, the sound and using backtracks at Cowboy Stadium was horrible. Even bringing out Slash and Usher could not save this show.  Oh yea, they also changed the words to one of there songs "Where Is the Love?" saying,"In America we need to get things straight/Obama let's get these kids educated/Create jobs so the country stays stimulated/This is dedicated to all the innovators." To me, the are nothing more then a "Studio" band with so-so talent.

  • Then of course there was the Super Bowl XLV commercial's. Some watch the game just for them. There were some good ones, my favorite is Cars.com: Car Buying Someone has to go first. But putting Joan Rivers head on someones else "hot" body for godaddy.com was stupid. A couple of themes were that cars are back as there were quite a few from the automaking industry. Lots of upcoming movies also were very prominunt as well. Lets face it, at over 3 million dollars for a 30 second spot it's getting very expensive for the little guy. Two other ones I want to mention were the Chrysler  / Eminem 2 minute spot,WAY TO LONG, and the Sketchers / Kim Kardashian, NICE AND HOT. Watch them all here→SUPER BOWL XLV ADS

  • Now the game. Two good teams, Green Bay Packers 31 and the Pittsburgh Steelers 25, fought it out till the very last minute. But this game was far from a classic. Green Bay should have blown away the Steelers. Aaron Rodgers was simply brillant at 24 of 39 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns without an interception named MVP of SB XLV. It could have been much more as at least two Packer wide receivers dropped two cleat TD passes. They also lost several key members of there team including cornerback and team leader Charles Woodson to a broken collarbone. Valuable veteran receiver Donald Driver went down with a bad ankle in the first quarter and play-making rookie cornerback Sam Shields hurt his shoulder and was out of the game for a significant portion of the second half.
  • The Packers forced the Pittsburgh Steelers into three turnovers in Super Bowl XLV, converting each into touchdowns. Big Ben Roethlisberger finished with 25 of 40 passes for 263 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. This game was entertaining, but far from a classic or even a very good game.
  • The Super Bowl trophy was renamed in 1970 in memory of legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi after his sudden death from cancer to commemorate his victories in the first two Super Bowls. NOW it is back in the Frozen Tundra of GREEN BAY!
